Escape’s Campervan Insurance is Comprehensive, Great Value and
Easy to Understand.

Standard insurance is included in the daily rental rate, but in the event of an accident, hirers will be liable for an excess payment (similar to your car insurance at home). That insurance excess and potential liability is $3,000, so many of our hirers choose to take ‘excess waiver insurance’ which can reduce the maximum liability right down to nil (again, dependent on your age and the insurance option taken).

Check out the three options, A, B and C within the table below and choose the one that is best for you.

Important Considerations.

  • No matter who is at fault, you will be liable for any new damage to our van, unless you have upgraded your insurance to nil liability as per above.
  • You’re traveling in an unfamiliar vehicle in conditions which are likely to be very different to what you’ve driven on previously.
  • If the insurance excess waiver option is taken, it is valid for the first incident or accident only. This is typical for most rental vehicle companies in New Zealand.
  • Third party costs and vehicle repair expenses are really high in New Zealand.
  • Taking full insurance means that you do not have to leave a $3,000 bond with us.
  • The liability may be capped but all insurance is voided if the vehicle is being driven in a manner which is outside the agreed terms of our contract e.g. Drunk driving.
  • And most importantly, taking full insurance also gives you peace of mind when you’re travelling. But remember – it covers the vehicle only. You should always have travel insurance for your own belongings.

Escape Rentals has one of the only insurance policies which provides vehicle cover, even when you’re driving on unsealed roads. Most other campervan companies don’t.

Escape Rentals Terms and Conditions

These terms and conditions will form part of your rental agreement with Escape Rentals. Our rental agreement has been developed in consultation with the Rental Vehicle Association of New Zealand, which means it is pretty industry-standard, protecting the hirer via the New Zealand consumer guarantee act. It also sets out any exclusions and the hirer’s obligations and potential liability. You may want to check our booking cancellation policy also.

Remember, if you’re unsure about anything or you have any questions, feel free to drop us a line before you arrive or let us talk you through it when you collect your vehicle.
